    Statement of Purpose

The name of this association is the Hunterdon Radio Theatre (HRT). HRT was incorporated on September 21, 2000, one year after the founder William Spear held the first meeting to determine community interest in radio theatre.   As a result of the strong interest, HRT was established to create and produce contemporary radio theatre and to advance public knowledge of radio theatre.

The present goals are to record contemporary scripts on CDs that can then be distributed to the public, to radio stations and via the Internet.  Members and participants are involved in all aspects of the productions including writing scripts, directing, producing, acting, providing music, and engineering.  To achieve the skills necessary for radio theatre, educational workshops have been and will be offered in script writing, acting, directing and recording engineering.  Approximately 75% of the members' time is spent in these workshops and preparing scripts.  The remainder of the time is in rehearsal and recording the plays and post-production editing of the recordings.  The workshops are conducted by individuals experienced in the radio medium.  The participants are taught proper technique and then learn by either writing a script, acting out a radio drama and participating in a mock recording session.   Participation in the workshops and recordings is open to the general public as well as the membership.  In addition to increasing the membership's skills in radio theatre, HRT will strive to increase public knowledge about radio theatre.  To this end, live performances of radio dramas will be presented.  Efforts will be made to target children to increase their knowledge of and participation in radio theatre.

The goal of Hunterdon Radio Theatre is to produce four to six 60-minute CDs each year.  Using the radio medium, HRT hopes to entertain and educate a diverse audience, many of whom have been unable to have any other contact with theatre but for whom radio is accessible.

Funding has been made possible in part by the Arts Council of the Hunterdon Area through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State Block Grant Programs.    www.njartscouncil.org
